Lead Paint Update

Wood flooring professionals who have delayed becoming Certified Renovators, or have delayed implementing procedures required by the EPA’s Lead Renovation, Repair and Painting rule, are being advised to comply with the legislation immediately. The law went into effect on April 22, 2010, but the EPA delayed enforcement until this past fall.

 A June 8 article in Professional Remodeler magazine reports that numerous renovation companies have recently been fined by the EPA for not following lead-safe work practices, and for not maintaining detailed documentation that procedures have been followed. Fines levied so far have ranged from $3,500 to more than $32,000 for a single violation.
